An adventure for the discovery of the people and landscapes of the Dominican Republic!
We will depart from the Viva Wyndham Hotel at 8:15 A.M. aboard our Safari truck where, in the company of an experienced guide, we will visit the most emblematic sites of the Dominican Republic. Our first stop will take us to a school sponsored by the VIVA hotel chain in the village of Padre Nuestro. There, we will learn how the Dominican educational system works, as well as take the opportunity to visit the ARTE CUSECO Foundation, where we will observe how women from rural areas manufacture garments and other products from readily available materials. Our journey continues towards the sugar cane plantations to see how it is cut and harvested. There will also be time for tasting some fresh-cut sugar cane.
Next, we will make our way into the city of Higuey and pay a visit to a tobacco factory, where we can observe the traditional manufacturing process of one of the most exported products on the island. Our visit will be followed with a stop at the Basilica of Our Lady of Altagracia (Higuey Basilica), built by a French architect and inaugurated by Pope John Paul II. Making our away across town, we will next go to see its central market, where a diversity of shops and local products from the region exists.
Our tour will make its way to a traditional ranch in El Seibo, located amid the Cordillera Central (central mountain range) for a chance of getting a better look at coffee and cocoa plantations. You will be shown a part of the manual gathering and processing of these products, as well as have an opportunity to savor the end results for yourself. A typical Dominican lunch will be spread out in a country setting so you may enjoy a taste of the flavors of this land. We will escort you later in the afternoon to one of the most famous beach in the country, Macao Beach, where you will have the chance to go on a refreshing swim in the waters of the Atlantic Ocean. We will return to the hotel at around 5:30 P.M.
